Taekwondo – What Is Taekwondo
What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is a very systematic approach to the martial arts, that instills just more than physical fighting skills. Taekwondo, is a discipline that Instills ways of increasing our spirit and life through training our mind and body. Today, it has become a worldwide sport that’s acquired an international reputation, and stands among the games of the Olympics.
What is meant by the word Tae Kwon Do?
It’s made up of three distinct parts “Tae-Kwon-Do”, however, it’s made up of only one word in Korean. “Tae” which means “foot,” “leg,” or “to step on”; “Kwon” means “fight,” or “fist”; and “Do” means the “way” or “discipline.” If we put these three parts together, we can see two important ideas behind TaeKwonDo.
First, Taekwondo is the enlightened way of applying “Tae” and “Kwon” which are comprised of your “fists” and “feet”, or all of your body parts that can be used like fists and feet.
Second, it is a path to ensure control of a fight and in the end producing peace. This idea comes from the meaning of Tae Kwon “to put fists under control”. Thus Taekwondo’s ultimate definition is: “the right way of using all of your body parts to stop fights and help to work torwards a life of peace.”
Taekwondo and Korea grew up together and has been given many different names throughout its history. In Korea, Taekwondo started out as a martial art for defense called “Taekkyon” or “Subak,” and developed as a way of training body and mind in the ancient kingdom of Koguryo, under the title of “Sunbae.” In the time period of Shilla, it had become the staple of Hwarangdo and at that time was responsible for creating the countries leaders.
Taekwondo is comparable to martial arts in other Asian countries and combines features with each of them, because throughout its history it has obtained many varying styles that were in the countries that surrounded them, like China and Japan.
But Taekwondo is very different from many oriental martial arts in a couple respects. First, physically it is very active with active movements that utilize an
assortment of foot skills. Second, the aim is is to have the physical elements and movement blend with the students life as a whole not to be seperate. Third, it gives birth to a dynamic poomsae (see poomsae in the marti

al arts) from another perspective. Taekwondo is characterized by unity: the unity of body, mind, and life, and the unity of the poomsae and confrontation.
When you learn Taekwondo, you should quite your mind and synchronize your mind with your moves, and extend this harmony to your life and society as a whole. This is how the principle of the physical moves, the principle of mind training, and the principle of life become one and the same.
Taekwondo is an attitude about life, much like having a job, raising a family, or fighting for something in which you believe in. What makes Taekwondo different from these is that it is an activity for survival in extremely negative situation in ones life. One must always overcome your opponent that is trying to hurt you. But simply winning a fight is not enough to insure one’s safety, because your opponent may recuperate and attack again. Moreover, there can be other enemies than the one that was just defeated. One cannot ever truly feel safe unless that person obtains unwavering sense of peace. To obtain this persistent or lasting peace, one needs wholeness. This is the aim of Taekwondo. Otherwise
Taekwondo would be no different from any other street-fighting skills. Taekwondo pursues harmonious growth and improvements in ones life through its unique activities. This is why one could say Taekwondo is a way of life. To ultimately enable ourselves to lead more valuable lives, we would do well by living the guiding principles at the core of Taekwondo.

“self Defense For Woman” – Simple But Brutal Self Defense Techniques For Any Woman
Self defense for any woman – techniques you need to know to protect yourself…
Forget the martial arts classes, forget karate, forget most things that you have read about self defence for a woman.
When it comes to a REAL street attack, all the moves you spent hours practicing will be useless. The aggressive drug user, street robber, or drunken thug will not follow set moves or patterns shown in self defense instruction manuals or martial arts books.
As a woman, you need to know how to disable that threat as quickly as possible and then make good your escape. Self defense techniques need to be quick and effective. Man or woman. The self defense methods are the same.
There are no rules to street attacks and there are no rules on defending yourself too. Do not be afraid to be a ‘dirty’ fighter.
Before I mention some of the techniques to use to fend off any attacker I must stress these 2 points first;
1) If at all possible, run. Do not be a hero. No matter how much you make dislike a drunken or drugged up thug trying to rob you, intimidate you, threaten you or hurt you, the best method to stay alive is get out of that situation. This is the best for of self defense. They are already in the mindset of confrontation, have planned what they will do and are ready to go. You are unprepared and likely to be hurt. If you see a gap, take it and get clear the situation.
2) Distract your opponent. They will be expecting you to be intimidated and surprised so do the unexpected. Self defense begins with shouting as loud as you can at your attacker and causing a big scene. This may be enough to get them to step back giving you a few vital seconds with which to escape.
Now, and only now, if you cannot do that, and are boxed in a corner then any woman can use these self defense moves to stop your attacker no matter how big they are;
1) Groin Kick. Very underestimated in self defense. Remember there are no rules here. Kick as hard as you can, or if you are close or grappling, grab it with your hand, pull and twist. Guaranteed to bring anyone down to their knees. The ultimate self defense for any woman!
2) Eye gouge. Again, very frown
1000
ed upon because it is a ‘dirty’ trick. Yes, it is, but it works. Put your fingers or thumbs into your attackers eyes. As well as pain it will cause blurred vision. A woman may also have long nails she can scratch at the eyes with too.
3) Throat punch. A punch or elbow to the throat will have the same effect as choking. Instant pain and a struggle to breathe. Again, a self defense ‘shock’ to enable you to escape.
4) Neck punch. Similar to the above but on the side of the neck. A hard punch will interrupt the artery blood flow and cause the attacker to faint or at the very least, black out for a split second. Again, allowing enough time to escape.
5) Cupped hands. Cup your hands and ‘clap’ his ears. This is a dirty self defense trick that will burst his ear drums and instantly stop any attack. A woman with long nails can follow up with finger nails into the ear and scratch to the face.
6) Nostrils. This one if for very close fighting. Fingers in the nostrils can pull his nose, and hence him, wherever you want. It may sound like a funny one to do but believe me, an attacker of any size can be pulled off another person or yourself, or his head pulled back by a much smaller opponent just by pulling his nose up his face! A woman with long nails will also cause ripped membrane in the nose and a lot of blood to flow. Great self defense method.
7) Side kick to the knee. The knee is a very vulnerable part of the attackers body. A side kick to this can pop his knee out of place with ease, or even shatter the whole kneecap. Just sweep the kick side on to his knee as hard as you can. The woman may also be in a position to stamp on the side of his knee.
Remember, if you can, then get away as fast as you can. If not, then use the street attack self defense moves above. Yes they are unorthodox, they are dirty but they work. You do not need to know the fancy moves from self defense classes or martial arts. They won’t work in real life even if you can remember them. Any woman should be able to defend herself with the 7 simple self defense techniques above.
