There are many things you can do in order to practice proper self defense and personal protection techniques. These things include learning, practice, being aware of your surroundings, and much more. These tips can help to keep you safe.
There are many tips and tricks you can learn when it comes to self defense. You should learn as much as you can so that when you are approached by an attacker you have what it takes to fight off the person. You can learn through local self defense instructors or you can even purchase DVDs and videos for training on your own. These are effective methods that will teach you the basics of fighting off an attacker in different circumstances. Once you learn the techniques you should practice them on a regular basis. This will ensure you are good at them and you will be more prepared to use them when you need to.
When you are considering personal protection it is important to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Many people who are coming out of the grocery store and mugged are the ones that don’t pay attention to what is going on around them. Look around for people following you, standing around by your car, and that just don’t look right. Don’t hitchhike because you don’t know the drivers of the vehicles. Also, avoid places that the crime rate is bad or if they look sketchy. Don’t look like an easy target for the criminals. Hold your head up high and be confident and pay attention to the things going on around you.
When you are finally forced to put your self defense techniques into action you must do so. Don’t be afraid to scream as loud as you can, kick, bite, and do everything. You must get away because it may be the last hour of your life if you do not. If the person has a gun and they tell you that they are going to shoot you if you scream, but to come with them, they will most likely harm you when you get to where he takes you. Make as much noise as possible and you become the aggressor. Show the person you are not afraid of them. When most criminals find the person is not afraid of them they will not commit the crime.
Use personal protection devices for self defense such as a Taser, Stun Gun or pepper spray. You should purchase them and carry them on your person. Do not put them deep into the depths of your handbag or your briefcase and have no idea where the pepper spray is or how to use it. Know exactly how to use things like pepper spray, stun guns and Tasers. Also, at night it is okay to have these devices in your hand while you walk down the street. Be prepared to use them. It could save your life.
There are many things that you can do to practice personal protection and be prepared to use self defense. If you come upon a situation where you need to use them you will be prepared and ready to defend yourself if you practice the techniques and become good, fight the attacker back, use personal protection devices, and more.

Street Fight Incidents – They Are As Real As They Could Be, So Stay Prepared
Have you ever thought about the fact that many karate trainees, for instance, cannot actually lead a fight to the end (with their success, I mean)? I have actually tried with one of my friends, an excellent karate fighter. During training, with the typical moves, he is great; no one can outperform him. So I wanted him to deal with me as in a real street fighting situation.
I acted in consequence. I pushed him back, rather brutally, if you ask me and then I punched him. I merely punched in the spots where I saw an opening. First, the push back had surprised him completely – practically swept him off his feet – and I mean that literally. It was the typical street fight and he could not handle it. I was amazed at how often I could catch him off guard.
Do I want to make a point with this? Well, I definitely do, else I would not be telling you this story. The idea is that real street fighting may be more aggressive than what you might expect or what you might be trained to in a karate module, for instance. Indeed, real street fighting is hard line. Consider the place where you are training currently. Is it a roomy one? Well, leave that spacious idea out of your mind, because in real street fighting you might find yourself in a dead-end street, cornered by several adversaries.
In such a situation, your training in that sizeable room will prove useless. Nothing has prepared you for this crooked street fight situation. You need to open your eyes. Many of the street fight approaches you master are not truly street fight as long as you have not stepped out of that training room. Do you think it is sufficient to learn to break some wood board to defeat those street attackers?
I beg pardon, but the reality is completely different – and disappointing, I might add, for those who train for it in a completely inadequate, non-valid manner. Street attackers will laugh in your face once they have cornered you in a cul-de-sac. All your wood board-break training will serve you nothing, particularly if any of them sticks out a blade or a knife to threaten you.
Does this sound unreal to you? Well, then it is time you did a reality check and see how things really are. Street combat is violent. Street combat is incre

dibly fast – in a matter of seconds, you can lay hurt, exhausted or God forbid dead at the feet of your attackers. Real street combat is a fact. My words may be a hard shove for you right now, but I am using them to open your eyes.
It is time you found out what it truly means to be a real street fight target. It is time you found out what it means to hit a real attacker. Street combat is not a motionless wood board, waiting for your hands to break it. Oh no, you will amazingly see this “board” move towards you and take an unexpected stance. The attacker is not frozen. Stay prepared for your street combat approach with these thoughts in mind – you will be able to face such situations better, if they occur.

Real street fighting is violent – in fact, more violent than what you could imagine while you are training. When you are a street fight target, you need to remember that the impact will be harsher than what you may expect.

The Problem With A Lot Of Street Fighting Dvds
There are so many street fighting and self defence DVDs out in the market place all claiming to be the best and have the most effective or devastating techniques. Some claiming you need no previous knowledge and can knock out a bigger opponent in a few simple moves. Others claiming to be secret or banned techniques that you are not allowed to know. Since we wouldn’t want to buy and watch every single one how can we find the good ones ?
Self defence is something that I am passionate about and as such I have seen dozens and dozens of DVDs on this subject. I really can’t get enough of them. Some of them have been absolutely excellent and others have been, in my opinion, appalling. There are some out there that have been done by very experienced martial artists however, these can sometimes be overcomplicated with difficult techniques or can be techniques that may have worked several hundred years ago, but aren’t relevant to a modern street fighting situation.
I guess it depends on the market they are aiming for. In my opinion though a good self defence DVD will contain simple, yet effective techniques that will involve using gross motor skills (your fine motor skills go out the window with the effects of adrenaline). And these techniques and skills have to have a percentage chance of working. A good self defence DVD should discuss fear and adrenaline and have strategies and techniques for this. It should cover awareness and deal with how to avoid potentially life threatening situations as well.
At Practical Self Protection we are committed to, and focus on, reality based self defence training. We focus on state of the art techniques and training methods that give you immediate results.
If you are considering learning self defence why settle for anything other than the best. Here at Practical Self Protection you will train in a proven and tested system that is effective, realistic and relevant to the world we live in.
