When we talk about self defense and self protection, we usually assume that it is between two macho men slugging it out. But the reality remains that many, many women are also assaulted by men. And a woman cannot be expected to go toe-to-toe exchanging blows with a man. In fact, no intelligent male fighter should go toe-to-toe with an aggressor. Though there are many possible techniques that are ideal for saving a woman from peril, here, I want to give you the single most un-used but most effective counter attack available to a man or a woman…
Let us first examine the type of self defense situation a woman usually finds herself. Unlike that of a man, she is usually grabbed from the front or from behind. Because a typical man is larger than the average woman, a great majority of male to female assaults involve a man encircling his arms around the shoulders or arms of the woman.
His hands are occupied, and true the lady’s arms are circled, but she does have something that is free and that is unexpected. Her head. One of the most destructive and devastating counter attacks is the head butt. But let me carefully explain how it must be executed. The area on your head that you must strike with is that part of the head that is maybe just a half of an inch or so below the area where the forehead meets the hairline. This is the hardest area of your head. If you aim for the nose, and use the hairline area of your head as the striking surface. When you smash into the nose with the right force, an total knockout is almost guaranteed.
So, be smart. Use your head.

Charles: On this interview, I have with me, Norm Bettencourt of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, street fighting expert who is going to touch upon a viewpoint that not many people see in the true light. We are going to take a look at that particular part that we see in biblical scripture where Jesus drove the money changers out of the temple, and he used force. He didn’t use diplomacy. There was actually physical force, and he did it in a way that was proactive and aggressive. So, Norm, can you see according to what we read in this particular verse that Jesus was a street fighter?
Norm: Oh, for sure.
o The First Thing that shows me that Jesus was a street fighter was Basically He Got Angry – He got into that fighter mindset when he entered that temple. He saw what was going on. He got angry. He allowed himself to use a very misunderstood and necessary energy. And that’s what you want to do when you are in a street fight. You got to get angry so that fear doesn’t take over.
o The Second Thing that shows me he was a street fighter is that He Used His Environment – He toppled chairs. He turned over tables – all of that kind of thing. For what I can remember, he pull a chair from under a guy that was sitting on it. And in a street fight, that is what you want to do. You want to use your environment to mess somebody up. You grab a chair, if some guy is coming at you with a knife to block and shield it and disarm him with it.
o The Third Thing that shows me he was a street fighter is that He Kept Up That Momentum – So, as he was there, he didn’t just topple one chair or one table, he continued his attack. What happens was that momentum was on his side, and people were backing away, and getting out of that temple. And that’s what you want to do in a street fight. You must take total control of the situation.
Charles: And also would you agree that he had a multiple opponent situation where he was handling multiple offenders?
Norm: Oh, he definitely was dealing with multiple offenders, and he did all the right things to deal with them because if he just went and toppled one chair and starting to just say, “Hey, go out of here” the outcome would have probably been much different. So he did everything perfectly.
Charles: So, now everyone we a different viewpoint, and it’s always good to see things with a new light because seeing things in a new light means we become enlightened. So again, we thank you, Norm, and until next time.
Norm: Thank you.

It is 1997, and it is round 6 of one of the most electrifying fights in boxing history. It is the slug fest between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. Apparently, Holyfield gains steam and is starting to land blows to the near invincible Mike Tyson. Then suddenly, Holyfield knocks Tyson to the canvas with a powerful left hook. The crowd goes wild! “Holyfield!” “Holyfield!” “Holyfield” they chant. Tyson becomes furious. They mix it up again. “Bam!” Holyfield accidentally head butts Tyson. Tyson loses it. Tyson then bites a chunk of ear off of Holyfield! Holyfield is stunned–as so was the entire boxing world. You see, Tyson went into “street fighter” mode.
There are 4 important and surprising reasons why you should bite when you fight.
The 4 Important Reasons To Bite When You Fight:
Reason To Bite #1 – It Is Primal And Instinctual – If you ever notice little preschoolers when they get really angry and fight–they bite. Biting is an instinctual natural response of self-defense that I believe is one of the few engrained and natural human responses of self defense. But what happens is that as we grow up and become adults, we suppress that which is natural for sake of civility. Remember, in the streets, when somebody is trying to take your life or that of a loved one, anything goes–anything!
Reason To Bite #2 – It Is Shocking And Disarming – If you bite the ear, cheek or the nipple, you will get a shock and panic response. Your attacker immediately shifts to defensive mode. Where he was the hunter, he is now the prey. In a grappling situation, if someone gets you on the ground and straddles you, bite the groin. I guarantee you they will scream, panic and beg for mercy.
Reason To Bite #3 – It Is Extremely Painful And Subduing – You can break any grappler’s hold by doing something as simple as leaning over and biting him on the ear. Grapplers will expect everything but biting. They don’t know what to do and they will usually panic and release you immediately.
Reason To Bite #4 – Bite And Growl As The Ultimate Weapon – If you bite into the cheek or the ear of an assailant and growl, you will totally freak him out! He will look at you like a mad man, and will sometimes freeze in shock and fear, but you relentlessly continue your hold and you attack without mercy. Fighting as my honored teacher, Norm Bettencourt always tells me “Fighting is 90% mental and only about 10% physical.
So, in a fight–you bite–and scare that fool clean out of sight.
