The most important point to remember about streetfighting is that it can nearly get you killed. For this reason alone street fights are to be avoided at all cost. It is better to walk or run away with your life than to stay and fight, risking serious trauma or even death. Rule number one is to talk, walk or run away from a street fight. Forget that the thug just swore at you and is walking away, let him walk. Your life is exceedingly more valuable
If you find that there is no chance of a peaceful answer to the encounter, then you must take steps in order to safe guard your life. When involved in a violent encounter on the street you need to take the fight to your assailant , don’t wait for him to start hitting you. Strike first and be unrelenting and explosive in your attack. Don’t stop until you have incapacitated him to where you can safely get away.
Don’t try to get into a boxing match with your attacker , when defending yourself in the street go for the more vulnerable areas of the body. Punching your attacker may not be effective, lots of experienced fighters can absorb a blow to the head or face with little or no damage.
Strike at the eyes, throat, and the groin. When striking at the groin, use the top of your foot in a snapping upward motion. You can strike at the eye with your index and middle digit pressed together, in a jab motion. Grabbing your attacker’s windpipe in a crushing vice like grip is also very effective. Use a double ear cuff to disorient your attacker and then using non-stop action strike at his previously mentioned vulnerable spots to escape from him.
If your assailant attempts to grab you, take hold of one of his fingers and twist it. this is called small joint manipulation and using it is exceedingly effective in getting a individual to release a grip on you. Also stomping on your attacker’s knee at a 45 degree slant, like breaking a stick that is leaning against a tree can stop an attacker cold. At the base of the throat, in between the collar bone there is a “hole” where you can press your fingers in as far as they will go and you can get your attacker off of you and temporarily incapacitate him. Traditional martial arts may not always be effective. The reason why is that many martial arts have been made “safe” by the instructors. The martial arts schools are geared towards tournament fighting, leaving the extremely needed street fighting skills not being instructed. Don’t misunderstand me there are still some martial arts schools, called dojos that teach you how to stay alive on the street. Unfortunately those schools are getting harder and harder to find.
